The Precious Hearts Foundation was set up in 2011 by Sally Bee
The Precious Hearts Foundation is an 'umbrella' foundation - this means that it works alongside other charities, donating 100% of all funds raised to our chosen charities.
Sally Bee is living proof that appearances can be deceptive. Looking at Sally anyone would be forgiven for thinking that she is the picture of health. Tragically things are not as they seem. At the age of 36, Sally was in the prime of her life, she successfully juggled a career as a writer and TV presenter, as well as looking after her three young children. Her life seemed perfect.
Then in 2004 Sally suffered three major heart attacks in the space of only one week. Unbeknown to her she was born with a major heart defect that had the potential to kill her at any time. The main artery which feeds her heart had become entirely dissected (SCAD). With Sally’s life hanging in the balance, doctors asked her husband to come and say his final goodbye. It was a huge surprise to doctors when Sally managed to survive three precious hours, astonishingly she also survived until the next morning!
Seven years on, Sally appears to be glowing with health. Unfortunately there is no medication that can ever cure her but in spite of this she tries to live her life to the full and be as healthy as she can possibly be. She is a big believer in making the most of every day and helping others to do the same. Sally is nothing short of a miracle and continues to confound doctors’ expectations.
Sally is healthy food writer and the author of 3 successful healthy cookery books. She is also the founder of the newly launched Precious Hearts Foundation and is a trained therapist giving regular talks to heart rehabilitation groups. She is an NHS 'Expert Patient' having completed the expert patient programme through Stanford University, USA.
“Launching the Precious Hearts Foundation is one of the most positive things to come out of my tragedy. I meet people everyday who have come through illness and trauma and although the NHS offers them the medical assistance they need to survive, their emotional wellbeing and personal support usually falls to one of the many worthwhile yet struggling charities. I am privileged to be able to work in the wonderful world of TV and media and decided very early on in my recovery, that I needed to exploit every meeting, interview and project to ensure that all the wonderful survivors that I meet get a chance to benefit from the best help and support and advice that is available.”
This year The Precious Hearts Foundation is raising funds for:
Heart UK
The Stroke Association
Star Support and Counselling
