It’s Okay to Not be Okay

Without a doubt, the last few months have been very strange, hard to understand and difficult to navigate at times. As we’re adjusting to the various ‘new-normals’, it’s unfortunately very easy to feel overwhelmed. The normal routines you would use to structure your days may have been disrupted, and this can leave you feeling a bit lost. But remember, it’s normal to feel these things; we’ve never dealt with anything like this before, it’s okay to not feel okay.

If I fell over and broke my leg, I’d go to hospital and I’d be put in a cast, it would be evident that something wasn’t quite right. This is different with Mental Health, a lot of the time you can’t physically see if someone is struggling. You would only see the tip of the iceberg, when in fact there’s so much more going on beneath the surface. This can mean that a lot of people struggle in silence as they feel afraid or embarrassed to talk about their struggles, or they don’t quite know how to bring this up with family and friends.

Shout   is a 24/7 anonymous help and advice text service that’s available for times when people feel that they need immediate support.

By texting ‘SHOUT’ to 85258 you will be put in touch with a trained Crisis Volunteer who will be able to chat to you via text. Shout have created a safe-space to talk freely without judgment, with goals established to help you reach a calm place.

Knowing that you’re not alone is important. No matter what it is that you’re going through, there is always someone to listen and help you. No problem is too small, even if you feel it’s insignificant to others – you matter. Sharing your troubles often helps to take away some of the heaviness and with someone else’s advice and support, you can gain perspective on the situation and figure out how to move forward.

“You really made a difference for me tonight and I can’t thank you enough. I feel stronger to face the future.”

You saved a life tonight and helped me find hope again.”

Shout is there for you. Text ‘SHOUT’ to 85258.
